Dental Checkups at Legacy Dental Studio

Hi, everyone. I'm Dr. Modak here at Legacy Dental Studio in Timonium, Maryland. We receive many questions about dental checkups, and I'll address some of the most common ones.

Why do I need regular dental checkups?

Regular dental checkups are necessary to ensure your teeth are healthy, there are no cavities, your gums are healthy, plaque is minimal, and everything is functioning properly.

How often should I get a dental checkup?

Every six months. We examine your teeth, soft tissues, gums, muscles, and TMD joints, ensuring everything is in good condition.

Can dental checkups prevent oral health issues?

They do not prevent oral health issues, but they allow us to detect problems at an early stage. This enables us to perform minimally invasive dentistry to maintain your oral health.

What is included in a dental checkup?

The dentist conducts a thorough examination of your teeth and supporting tissues, such as the gums. We take X-rays to assess the bone and ensure the bone system in your mouth is healthy. These X-rays also help us visualize your joints and detect any changes in your TMD. We perform an oral cancer screening and check for any lesions or suspicious areas in the mouth. Additionally, we conduct a cursory evaluation for obstructive sleep apnea.

What is a dentist looking for during the dental checkup?

A dentist primarily assesses the health of your teeth and gums, the level of plaque and buildup around your teeth, any soft tissue disorders or lesions, wear patterns of teeth, joint health, and bone health.

How long does a dental checkup take?

A new patient dental checkup involves a more comprehensive exam to establish a baseline of your oral health. A periodic dental checkup is less detailed but covers all the important aspects mentioned earlier.

Do dental checkups hurt?

No, they do not. It's a basic, simple, and painless exam.

What is the best way to schedule a dental checkup?

The best way to schedule your dental checkup is to visit the dentist regularly every six months. Call us to schedule your checkup here at Legacy Dental Studio in Timonium, Maryland.
